Why Jammu & Kashmir has two capitals.




Srinagar is the summer capital, and Jammu is the winter capital.

The main reason for this was the extreme weather conditions of the two regions. During winters the minimum temp in Srinagar normally reaches to -6 degree Celsius while during Summer time the temp can go past 45 degree Celsius. To escape such extreme temperature and live comfortably, the Maharaja Govt. started this practice and has been going on since then.
